North Wales girls added to Academy programme

The sporting careers of two aspiring athletes from North Wales have received a boost as they have stepped onto the Welsh Talent Development Academy – a Welsh Athletics programme designed to nurture potential world-beaters of the future.
And the successful scheme has been heralded by Britain’s top 400m man Tim Benjamin who is working towards selection to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The Peterston-Super-Ely sprinter explained:
“We have a vast array of talent in this country and the Talent Development Academy will assist youngsters coming through. It is vital that athletes gain access to top coaching and sports science so I’m glad to see that the future of Welsh athletics is receiving the necessary support.”

New girl's football team in Rhyl

Rhyl Hearts JFC have a new Under 9's girls team called Rhyl Hearts Ravens.
They have started playing round robin fixtures in the North Wales Girls Football League.

Mixed day for Flint rugby teams

Flint U14
Flint U14s played at home against Denbigh and dominated play right from kick off. In the first half Dominic Harrison scored 3 tries, Tom Rowlands scored 1 try and Damian Goss scored a conversion. In the second half Flint upped their game with Tom Burke scoring 2 tries, Tom Rowlands 2 tries, Rhys Roberts 1 try and Damian Goss kicked 4 conversions. Final Score Flint 55 Denbigh 0.

OSWESTRY VETS 22 WREXHAM THIRDS 14

Trailing by 0-15 at half-time at Oswestry Vets, Wrexham Thirds came back strongly with two converted tries after the break, but they couldn't quite catch the home side who clinched the game with a late converted try. Flanker Mark Lloyd and winger Andrew Williams crossed for the visitors' tries, wing Jonathan Davies slotted two conversions and centre Peter Blakemore had an outstanding game in the threequarters.

Success for Wrexham fencers

Wrexham Fencing Club prides' itself on bringing on new and aspiring fencers and to this end they are proud to record that it has five junior and cadet fencers representing Great Britain at competitions around Europe. The five to be awarded their stripes are, Ben Roberts and Carolyn Benson foil, Adam Williams and Ben Hughes epee and Daniel Lumb at sabre.

Caernarfon U14s edge it

The form book decreed that the Caernarfon Vs Bala Under 14's game would be a tight affair - and for once the form book was not wrong !
Both teams had strong packs, and it seemed from the outset that the team that could vary it's game, and come up with something different, would be the one that would gain the upper hand.

On the fourth attempt, the M.E.Rallysport team of Matt Edwards and Andy Murphy finally overcame the jinx of local territory on last weekends Cambrian Rally in Llandudno to score their first Tesco 99 Octane 1400 win.

Singleton crowned champion

Richard singleton 18 year old racing ace from Llanfairfechan, north wales added the 2007 Formula Renault UK with Michelin Winter Cup title to his 2006 Formula Renault BARC crown on a dramatic day at North Yorkshires croft circuit.

Five star Ruthin

Another fantastic weekend for Ruthin Ladies saw them rack up 10 more goals without reply in two five nil victories. On Saturday the vale side saw off Caernarfon in a league encounter and then followed that up with a repeat score line against Pembroke in the Welsh cup.

Wrexham Under 11's pulled off an excellent 28-12 victory over New Brighton at Bryn Estyn Road on Sunday. Their tries came from Luke Griffiths, Owen Evans, Lewis Jones and Leighton Davies while conversions were shared between Lewis Jones (2) and Mike Adams (2).

Wrexham track cyclist Ellen Hunter and partner Aileen McGlynn continue to stake their claim on gold at next year’s Paralympics and have issued a clear warning to their Beijing rivals.
The pairing – who are already world record holders – have caused waves after breaking the magical 1.10 barrier in the kilo time trial at the first-ever Pan-American ParaCycling Championships in Columbia.

120 current and former Welsh Track & Field Champions, along with their guests, enjoyed a glittering evening at Cardiff’s Angel Hotel on Sunday evening (Nov 11th) to celebrate 100 years of the Welsh track & field championships. It was without doubt the biggest gathering of Welsh athletics champions ever.

Llangollen continued with their good run of league form following up on last weeks 61-0 defeat of Caer Borders, with a 109-0 win over Rhyl 2nds on Saturday, in a match that saw both the club’s records for highest points scored in a match and most points scored by one player in a match surpassed.
