Another fantastic weekend for Ruthin Ladies saw them rack up 10 more goals without reply in two five nil victories. On Saturday the vale side saw off Caernarfon in a league encounter and then followed that up with a repeat score line against Pembroke in the Welsh cup.
It was another two clean sheets for the outstanding Ruthin defence who have conceded just one goal in seven starts this season. Eluned Roberts, Paula Hurst, Ceri Smith and Diane Roberts played so well at the back that neither Caernarfon nor Pembroke managed a single shot on goal. Goalkeeper Sioned Roberts was redundant all weekend going two whole games without even touching the ball. The combination of this mean defence and a prolific strike force sees Ruthin as contenders in all four competitions available to them.
Sian Edwards returned to the side against Caernarfon with two goals, both coming from short corners. Linda Harrison scored for a consecutive weekend having opened her Ruthin account seven days earlier. Team captain Claerwen Render got her customary goal and Ellie Hinchcliffe completed the rout.
Against Pembroke, Ruthin broke the deadlock very early from a well-worked short corner, which allowed Hannah Luton-Jones to finish from a yard out. Luton-Jones was then injured from a painful blow to the collar bone and replaced by Catrin Roberts who scored an identical goal to Luton-Jones soon after coming on. Gwenllian Jones was a constant threat to Pembroke and she put in both Hanni Franklyn and Render to make the half time score four nil. Ruthin cruised the second half with top scorer Render taking her goal tally to eight for the season from yet another successful short corner.
Ruthin travel to Welshpool on Saturday for a league cup tie against the only team able to breach the defence this season.
