North Wales’ budding Wimbledon stars – known as the Dragons - enjoyed their first competitive event, when they faced the Cheshire Cats in a Davis Cup-style tournament.
The under-9 and under-10-year-old players, from Conwy, Wrexham and Gwynedd, lost out to the home team, but gained from the experience.
“It was an exciting day out for them to travel across the border and play in a real competition,” said Pam Griffiths, North Wales Tennis Manager with Tennis Wales, the governing body for tennis in Wales.
“We organised the match to celebrate Great Britain’s recent success in the Davis Cup and we hope similar events will follow in future.”
Nicki Harrison, Cheshire Tennis Development Manager co-ordinated the event on behalf of Cheshire.
