With the formation of the new “Welsh Players Association (W.P.A.)” which will be affiliated to The Welsh Crown Green Bowling Association an exciting new competition (W.P.A. Ranking Competition) is to be launched in 2008.
It is envisaged this will improve the standard of competition available in Wales for the top players and further the quest for even more success in the County Championships for the Welsh Team in the coming years following last years great results when the team reached the semi-final of the Ensleigh County Championships.
32 Welsh players will be invited to participate in the competition by the Welsh Senior Team Manager, who on acceptance, will be required to pay a membership fee of £25 to secure their place on the listing and will be included in all the four rounds of the competition. There will also be a £10 per match day fee per player, which together with sponsorships will make up the prize monies.
A reserve list, where other players who did not receive an invitation initially will be established where any player may apply for inclusion and if accepted will by the WPA may be invited to play on any of the 4 matches if a registered player is unavailable to play .The player from the reserve list would be required to pay the £10 fee and would be eligible for any prize monies on the day.
The competition will consist of 4 rounds played on 4 days preferably on forthcoming Home Welsh County Greens or on experimental greens for future County games around North Wales. There will be two sessions per day 10.00 am & 2.00 pm with ½ hour practice time available before each session. Players, may apply to play in either one or the other of the slots and will be allocated a place on a first come entry basis, there will also be a scratch time 15 minutes after start time of each session.
In each session players will draw out of the hat and be allocated to a group, they will then play 2 games to determine order of merit in the group. The winner of each game will receive monies for winning plus extra money for winning the group .They will also receive points for their position in the group table which will go forward as a running total to determine positions in ranking table.
If any registered player indicates they will be playing on any match day and fails to turn up ranking points will be deducted from them
There will be a with full dress code requirement for each round which will be strictly adhered to also players each player will receive a “bib” to wear with his playing number together with the name of sponsor/s
If competition is played on a player’s home green the player will be back 2 and give jack to opponent.
A finals day will be held where the top 16 in WPA ranking table will take part with No 1 v 16; No 2 v 15; No 3 v 14 etc etc. If any of top 16 is unavailable 17,18,19etc etc will be invited.
