Caernarfon Rugby

Games between Caernarfon Under 14's and Nant Conwy have always been tough,
and in truth Caernarfon have always come off second best.

But coming off theback of a good win against Llangefni last week the Cofi's travelled to
Llanrwst in good spirits last Sunday.

However only 4 minutes into the game Nant Conwy broke away and scored under
the posts.

Rather than dishearten the visitors, this seemed only to spur on the
Caernarfon side, and most of the first period was played in the Nant Conwy
half - if not in their 22. But Caernarfon failed to make the pressure pay.
They crossed the line twice, following strong forward play, only to see the
ball held up both times. Then on 24 minutes Nant Conwy broke away again to
score their second try - once again right under the posts. 14-0 to the home
side at half time.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first, strong forward
pressure by Caernarfon, but failing to turn pressure into points. Nant Conwy
relying on the breakaway - but in the second half Caernarfon had the measure
of the Nant Conwy backs - and thanks to try saving tackles by Tomos Jones
and Caron Williams of Caernarfon, the second half didn't see any points
scored by either side. However rather than a boring game as such a statistic
would suggest, it provided an excellent rugby spectacle for the neutral
viewer, but a tense half an hour for both team coaches! The game ended 14-0
to Nant Conwy, but Caernarfon Under 14's will take heart from the general
improvement in their game.
